Teachers as Artists Entries due Feb 2, 2012

2012 "Teachers as Artists" Juried Art Show
Guidelines
_ Artist/Teacher may submit up to 2 pieces, first by jpeg...then submitted upon approval. Artist must have been or is a teacher in Indiana, K-college. Student artists/educators may not enter. The show is only open to licensed educators. Retired teachers who taught in Indiana may enter.
_ Send in a non-refundable entry fee of $20 with application. Include artist statement per entry. This allows the judge to get insight on you as an artist. Up to 2 pieces may be submitted under one entry fee. Check may be made out to AEAI.
_ Entries may be for sale. A 40% commission will be collected on all sales. Include this in your final price by dividing by .6
_ All works must be original. Works based on copyrighted or previously published materials will not be accepted.
_ Artist may not substitute or alter the work after it has been accepted.
_ Artist retains copyright to all images of their work. However, digital images of accepted work may be reproduced by the co-ordinator, Sandy Hall, for promotional purposes.
_ All entries will be juried from digital images. Notifications will be issued by 2/17/12. If chosen, works will be received by 2/25 to prepare for the Mar 2 opening. Show will be up for two months in the Creative Arts and Event Center, 2 W. Main, Greenfield IN 46140. Hours are Tu-Sat, 10am-5pm. Open on 2nd Friday of the month until 9pm, March 9th and April 13th, 2012.
_Place name and phone number on back of work.

Framing & size requirements
_ Framed work or gallery edged canvases must be finished neatly - no exposed staples or glass. Canvas pieces must be wired for hanging – no saw tooth hangers. Work done on panels may use D rings – no saw tooth hangers.
_ Include dimensions of work on your form.
_ Please assist us with displaying your work to achieve the best look. We have hanging system for 2-D work. 2-D work must have wire hanger/eyelets or D rings on the back. Bring a proper platform, substrates, cases or stands to show off 3-D work.

Directions for entry
_ Send completed entry application, no more than two digital images per work labeled properly with last name and name of entry (one full shot and one detail) and artist statement for each piece submitted by email to sandyhall68@sbcglobal.net or by snail mail to Sandy Hall, 66 W. Michigan, Greenfield, Indiana 46140. Submitted CDs can be picked up during opening reception in March. Jpeg entries must be received by 5:00 pm EST on February 3, 2012-- no exceptions –with application and $20 fee.
_Rename your jpeg with your last name then title of piece…EX: smith hollyhocks.jpg This is important. Please follow this renaming system to insure the coordinator can keep track of work.
_ Image dimensions must be no larger than 1000 pixels in any direction.

Insurance
_ The Gallery at the Creative Arts and Event Center will make every reasonable effort to safeguard the artwork displayed therein. However, the artist should supply own insurance if desired.

Shipping/delivery
_ Accepted artwork may be delivered by hand to the gallery, or shipped to Creative Arts and Event Center Att: Bev Hunt, 2 West Main Street, Greenfield, Indiana 46140. All accepted artworks must be received by February 25, 2012. Building is open until 5 pm. Email Sandy if hand delivering to make arrangements.
_ Shipped artworks should be packaged securely in reusable containers, with foam sheets and/or bubble wrap. No packing peanuts.
_ After the exhibit closes, work may be picked up by arrangement or will be return shipped by supplied prepaid label in the original container to the street address specified. Pickup date April 28 or arrange with Sandy to pickup 317-507-4617. Work left beyond this date will be left in hallway by Studio 12A. Please arrange to get your work in a timely way.

Prizes and Awards
Prizes will be awarded to Best of Show and People’s Choice award by Hancock County Arts. Sponsors are the Art Education Association of Indiana and the Hancock Co. Arts and Cultural Council.

Thanks for entering. This is the second show of this caliber offered to Indiana teachers to promote the visual arts. This Art Education Association of Indiana exhibit is held in conjunction with Youth Art Month. So get busy creating, prepare your pieces and send me the jpegs. Frame it up when you hear you are in. Give it a try and share this application with other teachers who you know are artists. Your non-refundable $20 fee will promote the exhibit and we also need you to spread the news. A free, public reception will be held the 2nd Friday, March 9, 2012, 6-9 pm. All are invited to come and view this exhibit. In addition, April 13 is also a night that the exhibit will be open for public view until 9 pm. Hours of the gallery are Monday-Saturday, until 5 pm most of the time. Private gathering may be in session. Gallery opens when Soup-Herb Restaurant is open.

Attack The White...Jan 8, 2010

Artist-Teacher Sandy Hall will participate in our first ever "Attack the White." Five to eight artists will create be painting a 5'X15' white space, a series of canvases bolted together on the night of

St. Mary of the Woods Retreat

The AEAI St. Mary of the Woods Retreat is set to begin at noon on July 13, 2009, and continue until 1:00 PM July 16, 2009. This annual art educator retreat will include several workshops including ceramics, painting, batik, and tie dye filled with plenty of time for collaboration with other art educators from throughout the state of Indiana. Elementary Division Meeting is set!

The next AEAI Elementary Division meeting/workshop will be held on Tuesday, June 9, 2009, in Fort Wayne, Indiana from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
We will begin our meeting/workshop exploring new product materials at

2008 AEAI State Conference

The 2008 Art Education Association of Indiana State Conference is rapidly approaching. French Lick Resort in French Lick, Indiana, is the location of the AEAI conference this year. Be sure check out the Art Education Association of Indiana website to see the list of wonderful workshops and collaborative activities available. Don't forget that there will be a free district workshop for all of the members of this district attending the state conference. It is a great time to participate in professional development!
